VHS CAMCORDER 1989
Michael-Ryan Fletchall's storytelling passion began in childhood, evolving to amateur filmmaking with a family VHS camcorder. This early drive led him to intensely study motion pictures, balancing theatrical involvement with learning film exhibition at a local cinema. He gained practical experience through high school internships in educational video production and at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, engaging with advanced capture technology. His professional journey started early as a weekend news camera operator at KKTV, quickly progressing through various production roles.
Following graduation, Fletchall launched Northwest Cable News in Seattle, a cutting-edge 24-hour news station. While the rapid news cycle proved creatively restrictive, it provided crucial AVID editing skills. His move to Los Angeles, spurred by his future wife, focused his career on long-form narrative storytelling. Within six months, he secured a decade-long position with Panavision Remote Systems, collaborating with and learning from master filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, and Michael Bay.
Abu Dhabi 2008
After film school, Fletchall produced his first film, Intelligence, leveraging his diverse on-set experience to create an epic period piece on a minimal budget, which garnered awards on the festival circuit. He further directed a television series for FX Network, DVD On TV, shot entirely in a real-time virtual environment, pushing technological boundaries. He then developed and produced It's a Mall World and Winter Tales for MTV and American Eagle Outfitters, exploring new media and brand integration.
An invitation to the Middle East International Film Festival in Abu Dhabi in 2008 became a pivotal moment, leading to the January 2009 launch of Experience Media Studios. This new venture aimed to merge media and technology for immersive storytelling experiences, eventually producing projects like the feature film The Forger and the 3DPOV® VR system. He is currently writing a slate of projects to produce and direct for his own Hollywood Expat platform using the technology tools developed by EETHR, including Free Fall, multiple Minute Universe series, and Crafty.
As an Emmy-nominated and award-winning Hollywood filmmaker with over 30 years of experience, Michael-Ryan Fletchall continues to work on major motion pictures, television shows, and live broadcasts. He enjoys using his ICG/SOC specialty camera operator skills to stay at the forefront of production technologies and honing his cinematic storytelling.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Michael-Ryan enjoys pursuits in aviation, exploring new cultures through travel, and the rhythmic expression of tap dancing.
